Abstract :
 In this study, the solution plasma, liquid-phase plasma system, will be introduced to treat cellulose in order to prepare glucose. The solution plasma is generated under mild conditions does not involve any strong chemical reagents, and environmentally friendly, therefore it is very attractive to be applicable in the degradation of cellulose. The cellulose powder will be suspended in solvent and treated with plasma. The investigated parameters are treatment time, type of solvents, type of electrodes and discharge power. The plasma-treated cellulose solution will be characterized including total reducing sugar by DNS method, glucose content by HPLC. In order to investigate the degradation mechanism, the plasma-treated cellulose powder will be characterized in terms of surface morphology by SEM and crystal structure by XRD. The obtained glucose will be used as a raw material in ethanol production. New preparation process of glucose from cellulose will be developed instead of conventional chemical and enzymatic process.
